A bit of our history
Canavia Aviation Academy was founded in 2009 by Mr. Mario Pons, a visionary aviator driven by the mission to make high-quality pilot training accessible to students from all over the world.
With over 25 years of experience in the aeronautical sector, Mr. Pons has worked across all areas of aviation at the highest level. His career includes roles as Founder and CEO of several airlines and professional pilot training organizations, CN-235 Air Commander for Maritime Rescue, instructor/examiner for Airbus Military, and EASA-certified examiner and instructor (FI/FIE, TRE) for both CN-235 and Cessna Caravan C208 aircraft. He is also a Quality Auditor for airlines and an AVSEC/AVSAF Airport Security Trainer, certified by AESA.
This extraordinary combination of hands-on flight experience and regulatory expertise gave birth to Canavia: an academy built on the principles of safety, excellence, and innovation.
What started as a pilot school offering Private Pilot License (PPL) training under the former JAR-FCL regulations has grown into a full-scale aviation academy, preparing future pilots for a global career in one of the most exciting and demanding professions in the world.
A bit of our history
We are proud to have been the first Spanish aviation school to receive accreditation from the State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) as an approved educational organization according to EASA European standards in 2013.
CANAVIA is the only aviation school in the Canary Islands that offers all aviation teaching courses. As well as certifications and qualifications relating to the world of aviation approved by the Ministry of Development (in classroom or distance).
In these fifteen years of experience, our school has qualified thousands of students who already fly in the main airlines of the world, or have developed their professional activity such as in executive business flight or other commercial aviation sectors.

A lot of our cadets are international students. We offer structured courses that give them the best learning environment both in class and during practical flight training. We have always been committed to offering to aviation students the best learning and training experience possible. Part of that experience includes the beautiful scenery and environment that surrounds our campus.
Canavia Aviation Academy is designed for students to enjoy the surrounding beauty while working and learning in a positive environment. Our services not only include a unique natural landscape but the location of our facility located in a private airport, allows optimal training for all our students. Our main campus and our two bases are located at our airport training centers in Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
Canavia is strategically positioned and uniquely qualified to sustain continued growth and increase our market share in the worldwide flight training industry.
