FAQ – Canavia Aviation Academy

1. What are the requirements to enroll in the Integrated ATPL course?

You must be at least 18 years old at the time of licence issuance, hold a high-school diploma, have a good command of English, and pass our admission test (math, physics, and English interview). No prior flight experience is required.

2. Do I need previous flying experience?

No. Our Integrated ATPL programme is designed for ab-initio students, meaning you can start from zero and progress all the way to a commercial pilot licence.

3. What does the admission test include?
The test consists of basic mathematics and physics questions, plus an English interview. It ensures you have the essential foundations before starting the training.
Applicants with an aerospace engineering degree or an aviation institute diploma are exempt from the theoretical test of mathematics and physics.

4. How long does the Integrated ATPL course take?

The full programme lasts approximately 16 months, including ground school, flight training, simulator sessions, MCC and UPRT. The structure ensures continuity with minimal down-time.

5. How many flight hours will I complete?

You will complete 227 total hours of real flight and FNPT-II simulator.
With the First Officer package, total hours can reach up to 280.

6. Which licences and ratings will I obtain?

Upon completion, you will earn:

  • CPL (Commercial Pilot Licence)

  • IR + PBN

  • SEP and MEP

  • ATPL Theory

  • MCC / APS MCC

  • Advanced UPRT

  • ICAO English
Your licence will be EASA, valid across 32 member states and recognized worldwide.

7. How much does it cost to become a pilot at Canavia?

The cost ranges, depending on the selected package (including Type Rating options).
The price covers ground school, flight training, simulator use, uniform, iPad and all essential training materials.

8. Do you offer payment plans or instalments?

Yes. Students can secure their place with a enrolment fee, and pay the remaining amount at the course start date.
Financing options through partner banks may be available.

9. Does the academy provide student accommodation?

Yes. We offer several student residences with single rooms and shared areas. If residences are fully booked, we assist students in finding private housing on the island at no additional cost.
Average rent is around €450 per month.

10. What is the weather like in the Canary Islands for flight training?

Outstanding: over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, steady winds and very few disruptive weather situations. This allows year-round flying and faster course completion compared to continental Europe.

11. Which aircraft and simulators will I train on?

Our fleet includes Tecnam P2008, Tecnam 2010, Tecnam P2006T, Cessna 150 and Pipistrel Virus, all maintained internally by our certified EASA maintenance team.
We also operate FNPT-II simulators, A320, B737, and Aviatek G1000 units.

12. Can you transfer flight hours from another school?

Yes. After reviewing your logbook, we may recognise part of the hours flown elsewhere — typically around 20–30% depending on the course and EASA standards.

13. Do you have partnerships with airlines?

Yes. Canavia collaborates with several airlines to host recruitment events and dedicated pathways. We organise Airline Recruitment Days, interview preparation, and simulator assessment training.

14. Do you provide career support after completing the course?

Absolutely. We assist with CV preparation, interview coaching, and customised simulator sessions (A320/B737) to help you succeed in airline selections.

15. Can I work outside Europe with an EASA licence?

Yes. EASA licences are highly regarded globally. Many countries allow conversion through specific procedures, which we can guide you through.
